For Jaime, a life with animals has always been second nature. Growing up surrounded by 17 cats, several dogs, rabbits, reptiles, exotic pets, and small farm animals, her childhood was filled with the joy of caring for creatures of all kinds. While pursuing a degree in percussion, Jaime’s passion for animals led her to dream of becoming a holistic veterinarian. She gained valuable experience working in veterinary medicine while building a successful pet sitting, dog walking, and hiking business, where she also swam and trained dogs. Over time, Jaime discovered her true calling as an educator, dedicating her career to dog training and behavior. Her extensive background includes work with rescues, shelters, veterinary hospitals, pet sitting and canine swim therapy businesses, daycare and boarding facilities, disaster relief efforts (Hurricane Katrina, L.A. Station Fires, Maui Fires, Hurricane Helene, Eaton Fire - her hometown), and managing a canine swim therapy program during her time as a vet tech in canine physical rehabilitation.
With over two decades as a business owner running a professional pet sitting, dog hiking, and canine swim company, Jaime has trained with some of the industry's most respected experts, including Sarah Owings, Helix Fairweather, Grisha Stewart, Nan Arthur, Dr. Susan Friedman, and Michael Shikashio. Jaime was educated through the Karen Pryor Academy Dog Trainers Professional Course where she was a B.F. Skinner scholarship recipient. She then earned her CPDT-KA and LLA certifications, as well as the KPA Puppy Start Right Instructors course certification. She continued her education by attending prestigious programs such as ClickerExpo, the Empowered Dogs Conference, and the Aggression in Dogs Conference. Aside from her education in dog training, she holds certificates in animal hospice care from Spirits in Transition, parrot training from Cockatoo Downs with Barbara Heidenreich and mostly recently she received a certificate from Code 3 and Associates for an Animal Search and Rescue course through Hawaii Animal Kuleana Alliance. Currently, Jaime is pursuing additional certifications as a Family Dog Mediator, behavior consultant, and animal naturopath.
At home, Jaime enjoys life with her husband and their 4.5-year-old rescued American Lab, Asher, who assists her with socialization and swim sessions as a teacher dog. In her free time, she can be found swimming, mountain biking, reading, playing percussion or mandolin, working on animal disaster relief efforts for the Eaton Fire in her hometown of Altadena, CA., or building community as a volunteer with the Buy Nothing Project.
Asher is currently Jaime’s main assistant providing a calm and well-mannered presence for dogs of all ages to learn from. He assists her with: socialization sessions, puppy social classes, dog reactivity cases, dining with dogs sessions, and his favorite - swim lessons and group swims. With Asher’s training and calm presence, he helps provide a way for dogs to see what is possible, build confidence and develop new skills they never had. He is a 4.5yr old American Lab Jaime rescued from one of her clients and he has far surpassed Jaime’s dreams as a working dog that truly helps the community.
